When Ross Worswick shared his aspirations of starting a fashion brand with his mother, she fully embraced his ambition and stood firmly behind his dream of success.

Ross had always harbored a desire to make his mark in the fashion world. Recently back from filming the MTV reality show "Ex on the Beach," he felt that the stars had aligned perfectly for him to turn his career dreams into reality.

Fortunately for Ross, his mother Judith not only supported him emotionally but also believed in his potential wholeheartedly.

"At that point, I didn’t really have any money, and this is where my mum stepped in," explained Ross, who co-founded and serves as the creative director of The Couture Club. "I went to her and expressed my thoughts about starting this venture, and she responded enthusiastically, saying, 'I think you will do wonderfully. I truly believe in you.'

"She then asked me, 'How much do you think you’ll need to get started?' To be honest, I had no concrete figure in mind, so I simply said, 'Probably around £5,000.'"

Judith’s unwavering faith in her son led her to take a significant leap of faith by giving him all her savings amounting to £5,000 to kick off the business in 2015. Little did she realize that this initial loan would pave the way for what would become a multi-million-pound brand cherished by customers globally.

"She took a substantial risk on me," reflected Ross, now 36, who hails from Ribble Valley in Lancashire. "Her belief in my ability to make it work was invaluable."

This financial boost enabled Ross to create a simple yet stylish t-shirt available in three colors: black, white, and khaki. Alongside his business partner Scott Shashua, Ross wore many hats in the early days, from printing labels to packing orders and managing customer service inquiries.

"We had very humble beginnings," reminisced the father of two.

The concept for their business was conceived when the two friends, who met while working in Manchester's nightlife industry, were catching up over lunch at Nando's.

Although Scott had some entrepreneurial experience from launching a selfie stick company, the journey ahead was still largely uncharted territory for both of them.

On their very first day of sales, they managed to sell £500 worth of t-shirts, utilizing social media by encouraging their friends to retweet their promotional posts on Twitter, now known as X.

Fast forward more than a decade, and The Couture Club boasts a headquarters in Manchester and employs over 50 staff members. The brand has successfully expanded into women's and children's wear, and most recently, introduced a line of footwear. They also have four retail locations, including their flagship store situated in the Trafford Centre, Manchester.

Their clothing line has been donned by prominent figures such as influencer Molly Mae-Hague and Lamine Yamal, a footballer for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

"It’s been ten years filled with challenges, and particularly over the last three years, we’ve experienced some remarkable successes," Ross noted. "We are grateful for all the mistakes we've made along the way, as they have shaped me into a more effective leader than I would have been if everything had gone smoothly from the start.

"When we launched the business, we lacked practical experience, which meant that mistakes were inevitable. We made errors and learned valuable lessons from them."

Over time, the company has adapted and evolved, a fact that fills Ross with pride. When asked what advice he would offer to aspiring entrepreneurs with ideas that remain unrealized, Ross kept it straightforward: stay authentic.

"Everything you do in relation to your business and your brand must resonate with who you truly are," he advised.

However, Ross maintains a deep appreciation for where it all started—a loan from his mother. This sacrifice is something he has always valued.

"It’s been a long journey, but my mother has consistently been my biggest supporter outside of my wife," he emphasized. "My entrepreneurial path didn’t begin with confidence; it began with my mother’s belief in me."
