Bold claim: Toronto Tempo’s first-look uniforms are here, and they’re designed to stand the test of time on and off the court. Now, you’ll see exactly what the new WNBA franchise will wear in its inaugural season.
Toronto Tempo fans finally have a clear picture of their team’s on-court identity for the WNBA’s upcoming debut season. The Tempo pulled back the curtain on both their home and away uniforms early Tuesday, ending more than a year of secrecy surrounding the team’s look. The design draws inspiration from timeless basketball kits: the home jersey is crisp white, while the away jersey, Tempo Bordeaux, blends red with subtle purple undertones.
Tempo’s chief marketing officer, Whitney Bell, explained the balance the design aims for: a classic feel that can endure, paired with a modern, bold edge. “We wanted something that could last a long time,” Bell said, noting that Borealis Blue outlines the lettering add a contemporary pop that makes the kit suitable for daily wear as a fashion statement as well.
Toronto earned a new franchise spot in May 2024, with the Tempo name, logo, and color palette unveiled in December of the same year. The uniforms were conceived in November 2024, but the realities of production meant the public reveal had to wait until now.
Holding onto a reveal for over a year isn’t easy in the age of leaks, Bell admitted. “It’s challenging to keep something under wraps when jersey pictures circulate. Seeing the physical samples after months of anticipation felt like a welcome surprise.”
Nike supplies WNBA teams with three standard uniforms: the Heroine (home), Explorer (away), and Rebel (alternate). Toronto’s Explorer jersey will hit stores in January, while the Heroine and Rebel designs have yet to be disclosed.
A distinctive feature across Toronto’s Heroine and Explorer kits is a row of six speedlines along each side panel. These lines symbolize the city’s six boroughs and the five players on the court, supported by a sixth player—the fans.
Bell emphasized that the speedlines help differentiate the Tempo and echo the team’s name and style. “The lines are a unique hallmark that reflects Tempo’s dynamic nature,” she said. “On the Explorer, the bright blue lines paired with Tempo Bordeaux create a striking contrast that visually conveys motion and energy.”
The Tempo will make its WNBA debut in 2026, primarily hosting games at Coca-Cola Coliseum at Toronto’s Exhibition Place. The franchise has also committed to two regular-season home games each in Vancouver and Montreal.
